Blue Mountains
most people know me for exploring the blue mountains. The reason why I did this was because no one had gotten across the Great Diving range before and someone had to find a path so we could find more land to farm on because we where in a drought at the time. There had been several attempts before but they had all failed. I went with two other land owners William Charles Wentworth and William Lawson.I brought with me, my gun with ammunition, five dogs, four horses, four servants,a compass, plenty of food and clothing. It was a very hard journey, considering that we nearly ran out of food, it was hard to find grass for the horses to eat, there was lots of steep land, there was trees everywhere and thick shrub. There is the map i made showing the route we used to cross the blue mountains.
Before Exploring The Great Dividing Range
One of my family friends, Sir Joseph Banks was telling me about moving to Australia and he highly recommended that i move there. I thought about this for a while and decided that it was a good idea. The government said i could have some land there that was 4,000 acres. On September the 1st i set out on my long journey to Sydney, Australia. With me i brought my wife, my three children, two servants, sheep, some tools, bees, lots of food and cloths. After a long trip i was there in Sydney, i sold most of what i brought with me. I then went to my land and later brought some more land for $1500 that was 450 acres.
